About us

This sangha offers a safe and mindful space for people who identify as part of the LGBTQIA+ community to come together in practice and community.
Grounded in the tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh and Plum Village, we cultivate an atmosphere of non-discrimination, deep listening, and compassion. We recognise that for many queer people, spiritual spaces have not always felt welcoming. Our intention is to create a space where you can arrive exactly as you are — without explanation, without judgment, and without hiding.
You do not have to be a Buddhist — or become one — to join. You are welcome as you are, and we can practise mindfulness together.

Time/Frequency

We meet bi-weekly on Sundays. Sign up to our newsletter for more details. Time: 10:30am till 12:30pm

Atmosphere

Our sangha is small and intimate. Depending on who attends, we may practise in Dutch or English.
We gather in a living-room (we host at home) setting in The Hague (might expand to other cities in Zuid-Holland as the sangha expands). The exact location is shared via the mailing list prior to each session. Join our mailing list to stay connected on this link.
There is no fee to attend.
Attendance is flexible. You are welcome whether you come once in a while or regularly. There is no expectation of commitment beyond what feels supportive for you.

A Safe Space

We are committed to creating a space grounded in:

  • Non-discrimination
  • Respect for pronouns and identities
  • Confidentiality
  • Compassionate speech
  • Responsibility for our own experience

This sangha is not group therapy, but a mindfulness practice space where healing may naturally unfold through presence, awareness, and community.

Our Practice

Our gatherings follow the Plum Village tradition and may include:

  • A short arrival in silence
  • Guided or silent sitting meditation
  • Walking meditation
  • A short reading from Thich Nhat Hanh or Plum Village teachings
  • Dharma sharing in a confidential setting
  • Mindful tea & eating

Sharing is always voluntary. We practise deep listening without interruption, fixing, or advising. What is shared in the circle remains in the circle.
We aim to cultivate a balance between stillness and warmth — mindfulness and community — depth and lightness.

Joining

If you would like to attend or have any questions, please send us a message at queersanghadenhaag@gmail.com. Join our mailing list and receive practical information about upcoming sessions and what to expect when attending for the first time.

After attending a few times, you may choose to join a Signal group to stay connected between gatherings.
You are welcome exactly as you are.
